I’ve played with this idea in the past and something that gives teleport at an “appropriate” cost with a significant drawback could be something like:įorcing it to be in a staff means that you have to give up your damage slot for melee characters and forego block for casters (also negates holy shield for paladins). Enigma is arguably the best if not the second best armor for nearly every build.Īs other people have stated, if you wanted a “budget” enigma, I think it should have an insane trade off.

Side / anecdotal context i spoke with one of the devs of a d2 mod community before and they mentioned they modded teleport of enigma and people completely stopped using it, this kind of illustrates the value placed on the tele skill and perhaps a possible argument to add something comparable at a lower rune cost. I realise you can buy/find items from vendors which grant x/y charges but they are usually way to expensive to repair and kind of break the farming flow to track remaining charges (so it addresses my point but not really) My suggestion is to add a runeword that would be somewhat expensive eg in the Pul > Ist range but grant the same teleport skill enigma does, just not any of its other benefits.Maybe this is just a me thing, but i feel like i almost always need to start the game as a sorc and i can play other classes once i hit enigma, its just bit of a high barrier personally. Once i got my enigma, it was on a low enough str base where i could swap it between characters and try a bunch of their end game builds and honestly this was a lot of fun, its just i couldnt help but feel that the barrier of entry to match the 'sorc meta' was 400+ hours of grinding cows etc for rare runes and trade ups. I did level a Necro, pally and amazon each to around 80-92 range but felt that pre enigma they kinda sucked in comparison, obviously each of these classes fills their own specific niche and flavour and its not all about incredible speed, but the game is a numbers game after all, kill as much as you can as quick as you can. So basically i ground out an enigma pre ladder, which took a fair amount of time, im not really shy about grinding out a bunch of hours in the game, genuinely love how it works, warts and all.īut i kinda felt that when trying to farm as efficiently as possible no other class plays the same as the sorc in this regard, owing entirely to being able to teleport maps and target farm andy/meph amongst other farm spots.
